A trashy, foil-wrapped marshmallow news nugget in our Easter morning basket from the morning's Washington Post:

The bald, mustachioed street cop appealed to Bush...A high school dropout and son of a prostitute apparently killed by her pimp, Kerik became an undercover narcotics detective with ponytail and diamond earrings.

Please note that George Chauncey's ground-breaking Gay New York: Gender, Urban Culture and the Making of the Gay World 1890-1940 (a facinating insight into modern male behavior that I would recommend to women in particular) defines "rough trade" as "hustlers, aggressively masculine in their self-presentation".
