Rat the Last

A sad day for the world's Catholics as, under an ominous steady rainfall, an unforgiving doctrinal hardliner muscles his way onto the Throne of St. Peter.
Contrary to the papal aphorism, the man who went in [to the Conclave] like a Pope left as the Pope.
I cannot imagine this most undeserving and self-promoting man was freely selected by the College of Cardinals.
Thought by some to be a "transition pope" because of his advanced age, I think it is a safer bet that Benedict XVI's intransigence will further harm, in America and Europe where tithe pockets are deepest, a church already so dysfunctional as to be completely irrelevant.
